I'm starting my 4th english novel (EN).
Well, yeah, this is the 4th in my life. I read chinese novel a lot, at time i can finished a 250 pages in a day! but not a single page of english novel even i desired to. I picked up the habit of reading english novel 2 years ago when i realised i need a change, i need to equip myself a better english command. Ok I'm a chinese educated chinese.
I got the first novel from a friend and it took me almost a year to complete it due to poor command of sentence, grammar and vocabulary. So poor! So you can tell my difficulties in reading EN. Well, living in a multi-cultural country, generally we never master in one language, but our strength is we able speak/write in 4 languages.
Of course i'm careful in selecting books as i didn't want to jeopardise my record. Poor story line or author would develop into procastination and lapsing in completion. At the same time i met a friend who speak good good english in good accent. It motivates me craving more in improving the english ability. I'm lucky enough that friends shared me good novel, there i got my second and third novel from Paulo Coelho. Then i got into more and more english literature into my daily life like business magazine, i love that, self development are interesting to explore too. I noticed, different literatures brought different "jargon". I developed more interest in reading and i find it fascinating.
Now, here i'm challenging a EN with 550 pages, a thriller fiction. I used to frighten by the thickness but now i 'm so eager to read it.
